There are more than 25,000 Accelerated Reader Quizzes in the Australian & New Zealand Quiz catalogue, with hundreds added each month. We have three difference types of quizzes measuring slightly different components of a student’s reading capability.
Reading Practice Quizzes – measure literal comprehension, so a teacher knows if a student has actually read and understood the book
- These quizzes are either 5, 10 or 20 multiple choice questions in length
- Each student sees the same questions
- Answers are shuffled to reduce cheating amongst students
- Students need to have read the book to pass the quiz

Literacy Skills Quizzes – measure a student’s reading skill through 24 literacy skills across higher order thinking skills from within the context of an entire book
- These quizzes range from 36 questions through to 60 questions
- Use these quizzes with class novels or advanced literature circles
- See detailed data on each students reading from the 24 literacy skills
- Summarise all students across a class
- Obtain data to focus future teaching on areas of need
- Use data to group students to allow targetted lessons focus on a specific need

Vocabulary Practice Quizzes – explicitly develop and assess students’ vocabulary from the books they read. Students regularly using Accelerated Reader complete lots of reading practice which can now be extended to explicitly teach new vocabulary.
- Each quiz asks a student to define 10-15 words from the book they’ve just read
- The next quiz will include new words, plus correctly and incorrectly defined words on past quizzes
- Each student has their own personalised vocabulary list to work through
