Accelerated Reader (AR) is at the most basic level a reading motivation tool. The combination of the software, training on using AR in the classroom, your current library books, and student success underatking a quiz will significantly increase the amount of reading each student completes.
Define a Reading Range
The starting point with AR is to assess each student’s reading capability to determine their individual Zone of Proximal Development or Reading Range. Students then read the majority of their books from within their personal reading range.
Data is Generated from the Student’s Reading
Students use this basic process in their normal silent reading. The main emphasis is on each student finding a book of interest from within their reading range, reading the book and then completing a quiz.
